Gingerbread House

My grandpa bought Gwen a gingerbread house kit from Costco (so easy, it included everything we needed!) and we had a good time decorating it together. I didn't actually get many pictures but the day after making it, Gwen was eating her breakfast and started making some barking noises and talking to herself. I went to go ask her what she was doing and she had thought her bagel looked like a dog so she was pretending he was cold and wanted to get into the house. It was funny. Here's a picture, it does look like a dog!

Gwen made the tree all by herself.

Turkey Trot '09

On Thanksgiving morning there was a Turkey Trot in my Grandparents neighborhood that ran right past their house a couple times. A bunch of us cousins and my parents decided to run it. What a great way to start Thanksgiving!

Fun with leaves

We raked up a big pile of leaves and the girls absolutely LOVED it.
Burying each other, raking, throwing leaves, jumping in, moving piles, running...all sorts of good old leaf fun.

Gwen's hands/arms are in this picture, can you find them?

The next day, the Strom boys joined us. More fun was had by all.
This was the best I could get of all four. They were having so much fun, they wouldn't look at the camera!

Halloween '09

So is it pathetic that my sister who has one month old twins is doing a better job at updating her blog?!? Well here we go....we left off at Halloween.

I wasn't planning on Sonja dressing up as anything but a few days before Halloween I ran across this Snow White costume for $5 and couldn't resist. Gwen wanted to wear a costume from the dress-up stuff at preschool (How easy is that? Thank you Gwen!) so she was a princess.

Cam surprised Gwen and dressed up as her prince.

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the cutest one of all?

Pumpkin Carving

Still catching up here....this happened in October.
We had a fun time carving pumpkins and Gwen enjoyed playing with the pumpkin goop.

Gwen colored and I carved.

And then we had some fun in the leaves.

We had a family baby shower for Greta and the babies in late October. Both Jenny and I (the hostesses) are in limbo with our living situations right now, so our wonderful grandparents allowed us to have the shower at their house. Thanks!

And we couldn't resist taking this picture...we took the same one a year ago when I was pregnant with Sonja. We had NO IDEA what would be happening the following year!

And here's last year...of course I had to dig it up :)

The ONE year old!

Well, I found a corner in my grandparents family room where I can get the internet and post a few pictures. I want to eventually catch up with everything since this is basically a journal for me, so we'll just start where I left off. Sonja's birthday!

I still can't believe she is one. Although she is beginning to assert her one-year-old opinions (especially when she is hungry!) she is such a sweet and happy little girl. Seriously, this girl DOES NOT STOP SMILING. I hope that continues her whole life. That smile just melts my heart. She is walking pretty exclusively now, so that makes life more interesting. We jokingly call her the tornado as she usually enters the room and grabs things off a table, opens and closes cabinets, presses buttons and doesn't spend much time sitting still! She also usually goes straight for a remote control or cell phone if she can reach them. She does have her cuddly moments as well and will put her head on your shoulder if you ask her for a snuggle. Its really sweet. She loves to eat and often turns her face away (there are those opinions!) when we try to feed her, so she's gotten pretty good with a spoon on her own. We have spent a lot of time cleaning her hands though as she often ends up sticking them in whatever she is eating. Gwen was never really this messy, so I guess we'll have to get used to it! Its fun seeing how different the girls are from each other and interesting to see how much we are learning about Gwen too in finding those differences. Sonja just isn't as calm as Gwen was :) Can't wait to see how those differences play out as they grow.
Anyway, on to the birthday shin digs.

On her actual birthday she had a little cupcake after dinner. She couldn't wait to dig in.

And a few days later, we had a small family party. I thought her cake turned out looking like a huge donut.

These next pictures are sort of dark, but when everyone started singing, Sonja just watched everyone with a huge smile. She loved it.

And then her interest turned quickly back to the cake :)

And then she got to dig in. I just love the classic one-year-old eating her first cake pictures.

And she got a birthday crown as a present, I couldn't believe she kept it on as long as she did. I thought it was funny how her ears stuck out!

We just love our sweet little Sonja Begonia!!!!

Sonja is ONE today!!!
I don't have a lot of access to a computer so these few pictures of the birthday girl trying on her birthday crown this morning will have to do for now. More to come after a little family party we will have on Sunday.

We love this little peanut with all our hearts.

Moving day!

Well, last Saturday was moving day. We are in a holding pattern while we wait to close on the condo and house (next week) and then we will do a little work on the house before we move in. For now, we are living at my grandparents house which has been great.

Can you believe how high they stack everything? I'm sure this picture makes many of our friends glad we hired movers :)

Living room before....
...and after. Its so wierd to see it empty!

We took the "puff balls" down from Gwen's ceiling and she had a lot of fun running around with them and making up a game she called "ball fight." She already informed me that she wants some new ones in her new room. I think I can honor that request :)

and just a cute shot of daddy and the girls. This picture was Gwen's idea, Sonja was not thrilled.
